ART & CULTURE
If you are in Rio de Janeiro this weekend, don’t miss out this Saturday on the Feira Rio Antigo, or the "Old Rio Fair". This open-air market that receives from 15,000 to 20,000 visitors, is held every first Saturday of the month. There you can find it all in one place: antiques, arts and crafts, vinyls, vintage clothing, great bars and restaurants, and live music, from choro and samba.
The visit of the São João Batista cemetery in Botafogo starts with the grave of the famous architect Oscar Niemeyer, then to aviation pioneer Santos Dumont to the great singer/songwriter Tom Jobim - who wrote the world famous song The Girl of Ipanema. Rio by Bike - owned by two Dutch ex-journalists -, is one of the six bike companies in Rio de Janeiro, includes the cemetery in its Panoramic Tour, that leaves from Copacabana.
New Year's Eve in Rio de Janeiro is one of the best parties in the world. And the best place to go to is, of course, the famous beach of Copacabana. There will be tons of other parties; especially cool if you can go with a local, but you have to spend the last minutes of this year and the first of the New Year at the famous beach of Copacabana.
Parque Lage is probably one of the most beautiful places in Rio de Janeiro. And that is kind of an achievement, since Rio has a lot of them. Definitely worth a visit, also good in combination with Jardim Botanico, since they are only 15 minutes walking from each other and in the same street.
While doing a bike tour in Rio de Janeiro, you always pass by interesting buildings you might want to visit later on. Many participants already asked us, while cycling, about the big beautiful building on Rua General Severiano, across the ticket booth of football club Botafogo.
In one of our bike tours we pedal through Botafogo, a traditional section of Rio de Janeiro that is easily passed by. It connects downtown Rio to the neighborhoods of Copacabana, Ipanema and Lagoa. Botafogo’s also has a beach and is full with affordable bars and restaurants.
