Parties at the beach in Rio de Janeiro - Ipanema beach

Summer has arrived in Rio de Janeiro and this month special programs are offered for visitors of Brazil´s most beautiful city. Ipanema beach, a popular stop during our bike tours in Rio, is famous for its Summer Rio project, which starts this weekend.

From Saturday till the end of January lifeguard station 10 will (Posto 10) during the weekend be the stage for free concerts, parties, DJ´s, and sports activities. Last year Rio Summer project attracted more than 50.000 people. This year will be its its fifth edition.

Those who like to get up early to enjoy the day when the sun is not yet at full blast, can begin with the yoga class, from 9 am to 10 am. For yoga instructor Romina Pey it will the fourth time she participates in the program. “Many people do yoga for the first time ever at the Summer Rio Project. There are those who continue practicing after experiencing yoga with us. The event is very cool, especially being in front of the sea, in touch with nature”, she told news outlet Globo.

For you who already have done a bike tour in Rio de Janeiro or walked along the boulevard, seeing people playing beach tennis is a familiar sight. If you want to get a knack of it yourself, you could join classes that are held from 5.30 to 6.30 pm and are suitable for people of all ages.

Beach tennis instructor William Silver says: "We started participating in the project in 2013, and since then many people began to practice beach tennis. It is a very easy sport. It's good for the legs and sociability. You burn calories and it entertaining as well."

The main attraction however is the music program, which starts on Saturdays from 5PM. The Gossip Party, led by DJ Dodo Azevedo and participating in the project since the first edition, will there this Saturday again to warm up the crowd for some hours of music and dance.

DJ Dodo Azevedo developed a special summer sound, with songs he only plays on the beach, like the Bachianas, especially great when by the time the sun is setting. After him singer-songwriter Baia, rookie in the project, will play songs from his album A furia do mar. Baia is a great fan of concerts on the beach. Events like this show that the city is alive, said the musician enthusiastically.

This Sunday DJ Miss Cady, from Bahia, will shake the beach ground with (deep) house. “I was delighted with the invitation. I love playing on the beach with the sunset (..) It is one of the best public events”, says the DJ.
