Rio de Janeiro is rapidly becoming Latin America´s most cycle friendly city. With 405 kilometer of bike lanes, it has more cycle paths than any other city in Latin America. And it doesn´t stop there. Next year, when the Olympic and Paralympic Games will be held, the aim is to have 450 kilometer of cycle lanes throughout Rio de Janeiro.
Not only biking in Rio de Janeiro becomes more popular every day, but it is a trend that goes all around Brazil.
Cycling in Rio de Janeiro will soon be made more easy in some of the city's favelas. The first favelas in Rio to get bike paths will be the communities of Complexo da Maré, in the north of the city. With a length of 22 km, the bike lanes will connect its various communities and its cyclists to the stations of the BRT bus transport.
