Ilha Grande is one of the many islands along the so-called Costa Verde (Green Coast). It is one of the many natural treasures of Brazil, with amazing hike trails, beautiful beaches and interesting wildlife. A great alternative for a day out of the big city to get to know a different side of the state of Rio de Janeiro.
It is one of the favorite places of the cariocas to get a break from the chaos in Rio de Janeiro and get a bit of fresh air, with Lago Azul as the highlight of your trip where you can swim between colorful fish and even can see – if you’re lucky – turtles and rays.
You will have to get up early and you will be back late, since the ride to arrive from Rio de Janeiro to the island will take around 2/3 hours. But once you are out of the van and in the boat, you will forget everything. Time will pass like there is no time at all, since you will be visiting one gorgeous place after another.
